Youth Voices at the Forefront: "Learning to Citizen" Salon Series Launches this May

A medium shot photo shows two teenage students, Scarlett and Manon, standing close together outdoors with big smiles and laughing. Scarlett is on the left, with her dark brown hair tied in a messy bun. Scarlett wears a grey t-shirt with a pink logo and a delicate gold necklace. Manon is on the right, with long, wavy blonde hair, looking towards Scarlett while laughing loudly. Manon wears a white t-shirt with a green graphic and a matching gold necklace. Their background is a lush garden of tropical green palm trees and foliage under natural light, indicating they are in the Green School Bali.

In a world calling for urgent healing and reimagination, Educating for the World We Want is proud to announce our latest global salon series: Learning to Citizen: Tales of Youth Voices, Agency, and Care.

This series builds on our previous work to take up a vital invocation: to meet agency where it lives and to honor learners who are already practicing stewardship, enacting citizenship, and learning how to regenerate our natural and human-made worlds.

Meet the Speakers for the 4th Global Saturday Salon

Saturday, May 9, 2026 | 9:00 AM EDT (on Zoom)

Our upcoming session features a panel from Green School Bali, showcasing how regenerative education translates into real-world student advocacy:

  • Dr. Benjamin Freud: Educator, learning dialogist, and Head of Upper School at Green School Bali. Dr. Freud leads the design of the Biomimicry for Regenerative Design (BiRD) curriculum, a first-of-its-kind K-12 approach that creates learning experiences in service of Life.

  • Manon Tiange (Grade 12 student): Manon is structurally mapping labor invisibility and the informal work sector in Bali, exploring systems like tourism, colonial narratives, and gentrification to visualize the forces behind these issues.

  • Scarlett Gonella (Grade 12 student): Scarlett’s project explores the link between limited access to safe drinking water and plastic pollution in Indonesia, focusing on how education and advocacy can address these systemic challenges.
